Jetlag sucks

The holiday’s been great. It’s like another world. You’re miles away. You’re also hours away and probably in a different time zone. Then it’s the dreaded time to leave.

Holiday blues

Not only are you heading back to reality, you have to adjust back to home time. I was lucky to be able to fly back from New York in club with British Airways. That means a flat bed! Ironically, the flight is only 6 and 1/2 hours or so, which means by the time you’ve had some form of dinner and watched that all important plane movie, you’ve got less than 3 hours left to get that all important snooze.

Stay awake

On landing you’re feeling sick. You’ve then got to negotiate your way through the airport, find a suitable way home, and then get unpacked, washing on and settle quickly back into the normal routine to try and not be found snoring on your desk when you get back to work.

Combating the tiredness

What can you do to try and not find yourself waking up at 4pm, realising you fell asleep at 11am? Tips from various flight sites say this starts before you get on the flight. Too late, I’m back home.

On the plane

Water. Check. Could have drunk more on the plane but I’m sure pink champagne isn’t too bad an alternative.
Move around on the plane. Well as much as a broken leg would allow I guess.
Think in the new time zone. My new apple watch was in sleep mode, which didn’t really help but I was mentally adding 5 hours (or was it 4 since the clocks changed). So confused.

On landing

More water. Check!
Eat three meals. Breakfast wasn’t happening on the plane. At least I can’t have food at 5am. So takeaway or do I try and hold out till the Ocado delivery arrives?
Exercise. I put the washing on, that counts right?
Daylight. It’s cold. I’m not sure that the garden is as appealing as I’d like it to be right now.

Well let’s see how long I last.
